Sunday Showdown

Today was quite the showdown: my favorite Greek Gods Greek Yogurt vs. Yoplait's version.

But first!

My snack (organic finally!) :

My dinner:

+

And now.. Showdown!!!

Greek God's:

Yoplait:

On the outside, the Yoplait is our winner. With no fat, less calories per serving, 3X as much protein, and twice as much calcium as my Greek God's, it would be the winner here. It does have more sugar though.

But how does the taste/texture compare??

It doesn't :(

This isn't nearly as rich and creamy or sweet as the Greek God's. I added a bit of cereal for a little more sweet and crunch.

I think I'll end up just alternating between the two. I can buy the Yoplait at Dismore's so it's easier, and I think it's a bit cheaper. The extra protein is perfect right after a workout- I had this after a killer Zumba class!

Yoplait is the winner in just about every category but taste. Greek Gods is still my fav though, and I actually don't mind that it has fat in it, I mean we do need some! :)

Good night, I'm off to write another lab report. Woo hoo!

Yoga, Zumba, & Belly Dancing

Ugh. I was so lethargic today- I don't know what's going on. Maybe there's a low pressure or something, but even after more than eight hours of great sleep I still felt so sleepy!

Instead of my belly dancing class I usually have in the afternoons, I went to yoga. Then I took a nap!

Before yoga my tummy was still a little hungry so I had an ounce of cheese to hold me through.

Then after yoga + my almost two hour nap (!) I had a bown of 1/2 cup greek yogurt, a banana, and 1 cup of Kashi Good Friends cereal. So good! The texture is amazing, and so is the flavor.

Smooth, crunchy, and banana texture...

Even after my nap I STILL felt so tired! I seriously considered skipping Zumba, something I don't take lightly. I came to the conclusion that I have never regretted going to class no matter how I have felt, so I decided to give it a go.

AWESOME IDEA. They moved class back up into the mirrored room, which is always more fun, and class felt so great. I sweated a ton and felt so much better!

{and I got to wear my new tank top- wearing lace to class makes me feel ultra confident!}

I packed myself a dinner for after class. Before, I wasn't eating much after exercising, but after researching and reading I realized that the body needs food to refuel, build muscle, etc, etc.. SO! I made a peanut butter and jam sandwich. Yum yum.

here's a close-up of the jammy goodness :)

I studied Spanish and finished that homework before belly dancing class, which was fun as always!

Beautiful Day

The sun is shining!

The grass is green!

The month is February??

Yeah, I'm still confused. Confused, but definitely not complaining :)

I got up this morning at 8:30 (crazy early for a college kid on her day off!) so I could go get more Study Abroad stuff taken care of. This process is so crazy!

For breakfast I wanted to use more pumpkin, and I thought that a pumpkin-yogurt combo sounded good. This wouldn't be enough to hold me through the morning, though, so I added toasted almonds.

It looks gorgeous! But tasted WEIRD. I would not recommend this! I toasted the almonds for too long, so they ended up tasting like popcorn, and the pumpkin and yogurt clashed flavors. The texture was nice though and kept me full for quite a while!

After breakfast I met with my honors advisor to get classes approved for study abroad, got passport photos taken for an ID card, got a medical physical clearing me to go to Ecuador, scheduled a vaccination appointment, and made it to the Study Abroad Office to ask a few remaining questions. Ahh!

Me, bored, waiting for the Dr.

Soon it was time for lunch! I went with the turkey, veggies, and a cranberry-apple orzo, all of which were quite tasty. The orzo was sweet from the apples and dried cranberries! yum yum

Well I thought I was being lazy!

Now I look back on yesterday, though, I did finish a good chunk of homework, bake, clean and do laundry. Woot!

After my rather unhealthy lunch, I stayed on track the rest of the day. A pear and an oatmeal bar for a snack, no photo of the oatmeal bar though :(

After a couple hours my tummy was still rumbling so I had the rest of my greek yogurt (maybe 1/4-1/2 cup?) with a little bit of cereal for crunch.

Then it was time for BAKING!!

Ingredients:

Recipe (adapted from the one here) :

3/4-1 cup canned pumpkin puree
2 eggs
1/2 cup canola oil
1/3 cup water
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Butter and flour a 12-muffin pan, this took me quite a while because I didn't want them to stick! Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together pumpkin, eggs, oil, water and sugar.

"Whisk together" flour, soda, salt and spices.

Add dry ingredients to pumpkin mixture and stir until combined. Then spoon into the muffin pan. I made exactly 12 muffins!

Bake for 45-50 minutes, check with a wooden toothpick to see if they're done (if you have one).

Before baking:

Waiting for the oven to preheat. See my peanut butter and honey sandwich? That was dinner!

After baking! These smelled soooo good. Everyone walking through the lounge would make comments about it :)

They all came right out of the pan- no knives or anything needed. Yippee!

Fruity Friday

I have definitely been enjoying the yummy fruits from Hillside, and today has been no exception.

Breakfast: overnight oats with blue berries soaked overnight, with a banana added this morning. I like this breakfast a lot- it seems to hold me over the longest, and I don't finish craving anything. Sometimes my pb+choc oats make me want sugar! Not a good thing for me.

I had lunch at southside today, codfish with carrots, zucchini, and a risotto. The fish was COVERED in spicy but surprisingly tasty onions! Usually I don't like fish or onions, but they tasted great to me today. The risotto was lame, but I was hungry.

When I got back from classes, I had two kiwi fruits and a pear (I forgot to photograph that- whoops!)

Here are some other ways I have been eating my fruit. These are from the past few days, not today.

I had a blood orange with my egg casserole the other night. These just might be my new favorite fruit- they're so pretty and taste amazing!

Here's a crappy photo of a very delish snack: blue berries, a sliced kiwi and some greek yogurt piled on.

Happy Friday!
